This is a photo I inherited of my uncle in the 40's. I really don't know anything about it, just that the other sailor was a friend who served with him on the ship. <p />While I was re-touching the photo and I was looking closely at it I realized that you couldsee the bar name in the window! It's backwards and part of it iscovered, but I was pretty certain it said “Poppy Joe's Bar”, so I thought I'd use that for the title.<p />Right when I thought I was finished, I had a thought that maybe itsaid “Sloppy” instead so I googled “havana cuba 1942 bars” and up came“Sloppy Joe's Bar!” Wowie–how cool is that!?!!?? Apparently this isa famous bar that was frequented by Ernest Hemingway! <p />All elements except the grungy overlay are by Christine Smith from her Basic Blues kit available at theDigiChick.com (their grand re-opening is March 1). The blue background is from her Citrus Punch kit (colorized) also available at theDigiChick.
