This is a matchbox-style accordion album I made from a small candy box. It measures about 4.5“ x 2”. I painted it, made a new sliding cover and added the accordion-style pages inside. The outside is decorated with WWII-era ephemera and a photo of a sailor (Clude) from c. 1942. Inside are 12 pages; each with a photo of a different sailor from the 40's. I put each sailor's name and date on each page. I also wrote a little more about this in my blog and added pics of each sailor.
To start this project, I used a small chocolate box that I had saved from my vacation. It was just the right size, so I cut the accordion pages and used copies of the photos so I wouldn't disturb the originals. It was important to me that I include each sailor's name and approximate date of the photo. I made a new box cover out of cardstock and painted it to add a little character. I decoupaged it with a collage of Clude's photo, including some real wartime postage stamps and some vintage-reproduction printed ephemera. I used the ration stamps numbered 42 and 44 to match the approximate years the photos were taken. I added a strip of patriotic stars on the sides to remind us of the men's brave patriotic duty.
Cardstock is from Club Scrap and Stampin' Up. Patterned Paper from Cut-it-up and Rusty Pickle.Vintage postage stamps used.Alphabet stamps from Hero Arts.1/4" square punch from Stampin' Up.Paints from Apple Barrel & Plaid.Ribbon unknown; dyed with Stampin' Up dye ink refills
