Journaling reads...

“Wheelie -- Gondolas rotate to a high speed and then lift to a vertical position (42’).” That’s all the description had on the Six Flags website. Sounded safe, relatively calm. It wasn’t highlighted nor did it have its own hyperlink to another page to describe its loops, turns, drops, and speeds. “How bad can it be?” I thought. “It’s a kiddie ride.” Plus, there was no line. All the scary rides have long lines, right?
Ever heard the cliché, “Famous last words”? That applies here. See that picture of me (left, bottom row)? That’s me standing in line, my last moment of innocence. Yes, it is possible for me to stand in line and never notice that The Wheelie not only spun around like an out of control blender, it also managed to stand completely upright at a 90 degree angle to its original position.
Sometime during the ride it dawned on me that this monster was going to go straight up, like a demented ferris wheel. As Jon Michael laughed and squealed with childhood delight, I prayed I would not “toss my cookies” in front of my only child.
I never opened my eyes during the entire ride. Eventually it was over. Through shouts of “Let’s ride it again!” I heard my sister ask me, “Are you gonna be ok?” Then she started laughing. Her laughing was compounded by my obvious dizziness.
Next time she offers to ride a ride with Jon Michael, I am so going to let her.
