Just a random photo of my sister and me. I thought we looked so sweet, and then my mind took a nostalgic leap off of the word “sweet” and I came up with some random musings about the candy of my childhood. Journaling reads:

Being a kid in the 70's meant that you got to partake in some of THE coolest candy ever known to man. There were Zotz, those seemingly ordinary hard candies that fizzed on your tongue when you bit into them. And Pop Rocks, which turned into a party of delightful explosions when they met up with your saliva.

We had weird wax candy, like wax lips that you could wear and make yourself laugh when you looked in the mirror and then gobble down when you got bored of their entertainment value. And little wax bottles that when you bit off the top, you could drink the liquid inside.

We even had candy shaped jewelry–rings with a giant candy jewel that you could suck on and candy necklaces, with beads that you could chew off of the string–who cared if it made your neck sticky?

And don't forget the candy cigarettes. Shaped like the real thing and wrapped in paper, they let out a little puff of sugary “smoke” the first time you blew on them.

My personal favorite were Wacky Packages. Instead of baseball cards, these flat packs of bubble gum that had cards with parody ads of popular products, like Peter Pain, Footsie Roll, Neveready, or Quacker Oats. So, in addition to satisfying my sweet tooth, they delighted my fancy for wordplay.

This took me way too long to make—I had to take it apart twice because it just wasn’t coming out the way I had imagined. Halfway through putting all those brads in, I wished I hadn’t used them. Best laid plans… Oh well, I’m just glad it’s finished—took me like 6 hours to make this.
Materials: Patterned paper by A2Z Essentials, Mod, and unknown (polka dots). Doodlebug, Prima, and Bazill flowers. K & Co. Metal word thingy. Textured Trios ribbon. Miscellaneous brads. Scrapworks rub-ons. Arial font. Thanks for looking! ~Debbi T
