I’ve decided to start re-doing some of my older, yucky pages—not all at once, just here and there as the mood strikes. (I included the “before” page so you can see why I HAD to re-do this, LOL.) I got the book store image on the second page from the internet and altered it a bit. Journaling reads :

I love books, and to be surrounded by them all day and get paid for it seemed like heaven to me after working the fast-food gig for a year. I'd go to Crown Books a lot, and one day–I think I might have even been in my Roy Rogers get-up that day–the manager offered me a job. Of course, I said yes!

It turns out that the manager's sister worked there, too, and Jean and I became very good friends. We had so much fun looking at all the books and making fun of customers. I remember this one guy used to come in all the time and stand over by the magazines for what seemed like hours, and then he'd come to pay for his girlie magazine and his hard-on showed through his sweat pants. We would crack up every time!

I remember we got to take home “stripped” books–when books didn't sell, the book store would strip off the covers and send them back to the publisher (to save on postage). They were supposed to destroy the books, but we got to take them home.

Oh, and the snacks we'd eat while we were at work! I think working at Crown set me on my course toward being overweight. I remember we'd always have a big bag of those crunchy Cheetos behind the counter–Jean and I used to call them “little yellow turds.” And we'd go to the Grog and get the best carrot cake ever made. Jean always justified eating it every ay by saying it contained all the food groups.

Working at a book store was hard work, too. Those boxes of books and magazines they delivered every day were heavy! They'd drop them off by the door, and we had to carry them in and shelve all the books. And Crown Books is where my signature evolved into the chicken scratch it is today–from signing all those receipts when the books were delivered.

Teaching is by far my favorite job, but Crown Books was my favorite job I had as a teenager.
DW inspiration from the design of Lisa’s April 4 page.

Materials: Mustard Moon, 7 Gypsies, Making Memories, and Chloe’s Closet patterned papers. Making Memories date stamp. Unknown rub-on letters and brads. EK Success BookWorks letter stickers. Gill Sans font. TFL! ~Debbi T
