I’ve decided to start re-doing some of my older, yucky pages—not all at once, just here and there as the mood strikes. I randomly opened one of my old books to these pictures, of our first apartment. The snapshots are kind of crappy. I thought about scanning them and fixing them up but decided to just go with them as they are. Deanna had suggested I also post my “before” pics (pages 3-5), so I’ve done that—how cheesy they were! Journaling reads:

For the first after we got married, we lived in Hyattsville with Farzad's roommate, Shah. I needed to be closer to school, so we rented an apartment in Gaithersburg at Orchard Pond. Farzad wasn't making very much as an assistant manager at Roy Rogers, and I was making peanuts working as a part-time clerk at Crown Books, so we furnished and decorated our apartment on a shoestring. Some old furniture from Farzad's place. A few odds and ends from my bedroom. And some castaways from Roy Rogers after they remodeled the dining room (tacky but true!).

1. Posing with me is Kathy, a high school friend we used to pick up hitchhiking all the time. Not sure where these ugly curtains came from, but you can see the shadow of where we put contact paper on the windows so no one would see the cats we weren't allowed to have! Our record player. I think I wore out the grooves on my Men At Work album playing it over and over. And a speaker doubling as an end table. 2. Wine bottle “vase” leftover from our wedding. Bamboo umbrella from Pier One, one of the new things we bought for our apartment. Stool pilfered from Roy Rogers. 3. Boo-Boo Kitty posing next to Farzad's sofa bed that would one day kill him. 4. Our lovely bedroom–a mattress on the floor and a night stand borrowed from Roy Rogers's milk deliverers. My alarm clock from my 13th birthday (which I still have 30 years later).

Materials: Scenic Route patterned papers. Heidi Swapp chipboard letters. Catslife Press stamp. Making Memories Wordfetti and Date Stamp. Teri Martin letter stickers. TFL! ~Debbi T
