Well, here is my entry into Anni'e GORGEOUS circle journal. Her theme is “style”…not such an easy topic! The left hand page flips up to show the journaling shown in the third pic. Journaling reads:

Like you Annie, I see many parallels between my life and my style.

I have a slightly different spin on this theory though. My approach to many things in life is simple. While I admire the coziness of shabby chic style, the warmth of the vintage touch, the inviting texture of collage and the rustic charm of the homespun, inevitably I gravitate towards all things simple, graphic, organized and linear.

I am a planner, a list-maker, an organizer…a “type A” personality firstborn who craves order and predictable-ness; I actually majored in management with a concentration in planning! I find that my inclination towards the simple way of life has permeated every aspect of my life and style.

My appearance is about as simple as you can get…no one could ever accuse me of being high-maintenance! A t-shirt and jeans is standard issue and if my hair isn’t in a ponytail, I just don’t feel “dressed”. No makeup other than chapstick unless we’re going out…then I may spurge on a quick 2 minute slathering of mascara…I am completely envious of women who always look well put together; unfortunately, that will never be me!

My home is also reflective of my penchant for a simplistic approach to living. I have no collections…other than my books, CD’s and scrapping supplies (OK, I collect A LOT of all of the aforementioned…) I crave order but will openly admit to piles around my house…laundry, dishes, bills…the never-ending variety of piles that I can never quite eliminate. But, while I’ll admit to harboring the piles, I strive to be rid of them. I love minimal “stuff” around the house but love color and interesting design. I am addicted to storage solutions and will never give up on my endeavor to have everything completely and totally hidden from view or perfectly displayed. Ikea is like heaven to me!

As far as my personal style, or personality I suppose…I’m very proud of the way I have transformed some of my less-than-desirable traits. I used to make things so much more complex than they needed to be. I worried about everything and never fully enjoyed all of the good things I had going in my life. I feel like a new person now though. I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I cannot control everything…and now I enjoy life so much more! Before I was a “cup half empty” kind of gal. Now it seems I can always make the best of the situation and it feels absolutely wonderful! So, no more complexity for me…I take each day as they come and appreciate the simple things…And finally, the reason we’re all here…my scrapping style. I often experiment with new products and techniques and have a big enough (and constantly growing) embellishment stash to adorn a small country (Luxembourg perhaps?) but the completed pages that I am most satisfied with are most always cardstock and one or two embellishments. Just like the majority of scrappers, my focus is on preserving the integrity of the picture and journaling but unlike so many talented scrappers, I have a hard time creating an embellished layout without detracting from those important things. So, I’m trying desperately to embrace my inability to emulate the gorgeously layered and textured layouts and embrace the style that fits me and my life.
Hope you like it Annie!
