This journaling is from my MMM greatest love entry - I redid the page in 8 1/2 x 11 for my album (the last page is the 12 x 12 that I submitted). Melissa Frances pp, Bazzill cardstock and MM rubons. Trim is Rebecca Sower and font for the initials is Typist. Journaling reads:
Not everyone can appreciate the thrill of being taken by surprise. The orderly among us don’t want anything to stray from their meticulously planned and executed lives. While I will freely admit to being a tad particular from time to time, I can also say without hesitation that I’ve learned to take things as they come and not to rely so heavily on what should be rather than what could be if only I let nature take its course.
I don’t think anyone can deny the utter joy of an unexpected blessing though… those sometimes magical, always unplanned gifts that only offer themselves to us on rare occasions. If you’re not observant, they will pass you by in a heartbeat and you’ll never even be aware of what you have missed. Be it finding a $5 bill in a pair of pants while doing laundry or the luxury of an uninterrupted nap, unexpected blessings are always a welcome diversion in the course of an otherwise ordinary day.
Unexpected blessings aren’t always tangible though…sometimes it’s just the opportunity to look at something in a new light or appreciate something you have in your life in a way you never had before. Perhaps it will lead you to make a decision you might not have considered otherwise. Moving to California was uncharacteristically risky for the previously untested and unchallenged “safe” version of me. I thank my lucky stars everyday that I took the risk. The decision to move turned out to be the biggest unexpected blessing I ever could have imagined. Meeting my intended goals of experiencing life in a new environment, living on my own, building my resume and making a new set of friends would have been fulfilling in and of themselves. My initial plan was to move out here for a couple of years, gain some valuable work experience and then return to Michigan where I felt comfortable and “home.” What I hadn’t planned for my cross-country adventure was finding my future…my destiny . I couldn’t have known that I would meet my husband, the love of my life, and together with him, create two beautiful sons. The three men whom I now share my life with, are my daily blessings, ones that 5 years ago I never imagined I’d be so fortunate to share my life with. The gamble I took all those years ago resulted in the most amazing and unexpected blessings of my life.
Accomplishing a goal is so rewarding but there is something incomparably sweet about reaping the benefits of a risky decision. I’m endlessly grateful for allowing the “what could be” to happen…THAT inimitable feeling is my greatest love.
