For Rachel's (ethanloveshismommy) CJ about travel…had to take a picture since it was too big to scan.
Journaling reads:
The best trip I ever took wasn’t a vacation in the traditional sense. In more ways than one though it was the most important journey I had made to date. It started late March, 2001 in Pontiac, Michigan and ended a week later in Modesto, California. I was recently divorced, trying to break free from a job at General Motors that appeared to be going nowhere fast. I was ready to start a new life, make new friends and make a new state “my own.” The plan was just to stay in California for a couple of years and then return to Michigan where all my family is. I certainly didn’t have marriage and kids in mind! The trip itself was such a great experience. One of my dearest friends, my “aunt” Jaimie, joined me on the roadtrip. We took our time…exploring different cities and landscapes. We’d pull over when we saw something interesting; we went off-road a couple of times in the Jeep; we saw wildlife and landmarks and met interesting people. We took tons of photos and had many great conversations. We sung at the top of our lungs and acted goofy. Let me make a suggestion…I feel it’s my duty as your friend to share this little nugget of truth with you. Never…EVER …ever, ever, ever, ever, ever make a long trip in a rag top Jeep. Now, I loved my Jeep, hope to get another one someday, but trust me on this one – they ARE NOT meant for long distance driving. They’re loud. VERY loud. Deafeningly loud at times. We wore earplugs for much of the trip and forget about listening to the books on tape. Oh yeah, and the other thing? Lots of wind drag. I mean, on slight grades we would lose so much speed we were being passed by semis! OK, PSA over. There is my story of my great adventure. The one that led me to my job at Gallo, which led to meeting my husband which in turn led to my sons. I hope soon to be making another great journey. One BACK to Michigan with my family in tow. Wish me luck…I’ll need it!
