This is the story of my mother in law.the journaling says:That seemed strange to me to see your name as Hazel. You were always MOM to me. I remember the day you graciously welcomed me to the Staley family. You were so sweet. I think you were happy to have a daughter after having 3 sons. I was happy to have you as my mother in law. I’d heard stories over the years about “mother-in-laws” but you didn’t seem to fit that mold at all. Thank you!You are the only mother I’ve ever known that could make all three of her children think they were your favorite. That was a special gift. You even made ME think I was your favorite!! You were a very special lady. I admired your humbleness, your steadfast love for your family, and your work ethic. There were never any idle hands in your home. You were a marvelous cook. Besides cooking well, you also grew much of your own food. You were an accomplished seamstress. You were very frugal. You couldn’t see the multi-colored feed-bags going to waste, so you would fashion the boys shirts and pajamas from the coarse material. In later years, you even accomplished some beautiful quilting. My children always remember the Christmas you spent at our home. We often quipped about how you came to California from Michigan to get out of the winter weather, and enjoy some nice bright California sunshine. Unfortunately, for you, you arrived in one of our biggest snowstorms we’ve had here in the 35 years we’ve been here. Right after you arrived at our home, the road from the airport to our home was closed due to the storm. I remember our pipes froze the next day. We found out when our wash water flooded the kitchen! While we cleaned the water from the floor, the kids enjoyed playing outside in the snow!Thank-you, Mom, for being you. You were deeply loved.
