Asher was so excited when it came time to start Pre School and for the first few weeks after she had started all we kept on hearing about was black hat boy with the fuzzy hair and red hat boy who was his friend. It turned out that they were boys in one of the other classes but they all ate lunch and played together at lunch times. After a few weeks of hearing about black hat and red hat boys we finally found out their names. Bailey and Owen, who was often called Bowen.
Asher soon became attached to Bailey and talked about him all of the time. She often said to me when doing her hair for school in the mornings “get beautiful for Bailey as he loves me now.” Once when watching a program on TV about Disneyland she said to me “Bailey and I are going to get married there”. Bailey had even told his parents who aren’t married that they weren’t allowed to get married there as that is where he and Asher were. Asher has even planned out what colour cars they will drive when they get older. She will have a big purple one and Bailey will have a big blue one. They will need big cars to hold the five babies that they are going to have. Three boys and two girls I’ve been told.
Asher and Bailey’s wedding was the talk of the pre school teachers with most of them being invited to the wedding by Bailey at some stage but told they couldn’t be bridesmaids. It was well known by all that Asher would wait at the gate to the playground for Bailey in the mornings and wouldn’t go into her class room without saying good morning to him and giving him a cuddle and most mornings Bailey would come running up the path with a drawing for Asher.
We were out at the markets one day and Asher had some money to spend. She found a bright orange star pillow with a photo pocket on the front of it. She had to have it and the first words she said was ‘“This is for my photo of Bailey” a photo that we didn’t have at that stage so we had to take one the next day at school.
When Bailey’s mum told me that he would be changing schools I thought that we were going to be in for a rough time. We went out for tea the night and I told her and then we went of to the shops to buy him a present. Bailey brought Asher a present to, a little bear a she called Bella with miss you on her belly. This sits on her bed with her star pillow. To my surprise and that of her teachers Asher coped really well with not having Bailey at school and with in the week was talking about another little boy called Cyron and was heard to say that Cyron was her boyfriend now but she was still going to marry Bailey.
I even thought that over time not seeing Bailey she wouldn’t talk about him as much but she does and when we had a phone call from Bailey’s mum asking if we could go over for a play Asher was over the moon and in talking to Bailey’s mum that day I found out that Bailey talks about Asher as much as she does him.
