For the Celebrate the Seasons class. Journalling reads: Mum can be quite difficult to buy for so this year we decided to do something a little different and give her an experience rather than a physical gift for Mother's Day. Lisa and I chose afternoon tea in the Grand Ballroom at the Hotel Windsor. We called Mum and asked her to keep the weekend free before posting home an invitation formally asking her to attend. I think she was very excited as she had spoken to others who had attended and it came highly recommended. We arrived early so Mum could sit in the foyer and admire her surroundings and we had all dressed appropriately for high tea which added to our excitement. Each mother present received a single pink carnation from the Hotel Windsor and Mum was wished a Happy Mother's Day by everyone from the doorman to our table staff. After being seated at our table our waiter poured a complimentary glass of champagne for each of us (Dad and I accepted one under orders from Mum) then brought out two three-tiered stands of finger sandwiches, assorted warm pastries and scones. Mum was delighted to discover salmon sandwiches after assuming they were tomato, and enjoyed the mini quiches, tartlets and pies on offer. The tea was piping hot (just the way Mum likes it) and the Windsor's own famous blend. Finally Lisa and I made our way to the dessert buffet where we filled a plate with a creme brulee made in a shot glass, individual cakes and slices, and the most delectable gateaux we could find. Although Mum exclaimed over the number of portions she still made a valiant attempt to eat everything. So we went back to the dessert buffet for more. We tried as many of the desserts as we could, with mango cheesecake and homemade strawberry ice cream my favourites. While we ate a pianist filled the background with classical and popular pieces. After two hours Mum was completely satisfied with her afternoon tea experience and we made our way home feeling very content. <br><br>Papers are Cosmo Cricket and Iron Orchid Designs.
