A lo based on one of the Elsie challenges (journal about an unexpected event), which also fits with AAM challenge 11 (expectations). PP is KI, letters are HS.

Journalling reads: Two changes, in the space of a little over a year, neither of which I expected, but which both opened my eyes to the possibilities and turned my life in new directions.

The first came on the day I returned to work after a twelve week holiday. The company had undergone a number of changes while I was away, and there was no longer a position for me. Although I was a little upset at no longer having a secure future, I was incredibly relieved. I had been bitterly unhappy both at work and at home, for some time, and being made redundant finally set me free. I made two phone calls and had a job interview lined up for the next day. Life was about to change and it could only be for the better.

I started with the new company the following Monday and had been unemployed for only three days. Surely this was the start I was hoping for.

The second change was the announcement that the company I was working for was closing its state office, where I worked, and the corporate stores were to be sold. There was to be a period of transition and winding down operations, and we were all guaranteed our jobs for a period of three months. On the very day I decided the time had come to look for something new, one of my former bosses rang and asked me to come and meet him to discuss a job he had in mind for me.

I went with an open mind, although a little sceptical about wanting to travel the distance to his place of work, or my ability to meet his high standards after having whiled my days away on the internet while pretending to work for at least the past two years. The opportunities he offered me, I knew, were not ones someone else would give me. He was willing to put me into an area of some responsibility despite no prior experience in this area. I accepted.

And I have not looked back. I actually enjoy going to work instead of waking up filled with dread. I love the people I work with, and like in my last job, I believe I have found people with whom I will stay friends. I am honestly happy again for the first time in far too long.

Nearly all the best things that came to me in life have been unexpected, unplanned by me. (Carl Sandburg)

TFL!
