This is for the August pages challenge and the No Shopping Challenge. Journaling behind photo reads:I love to read! I have loved to read since I started learning how in kindergarten. I still remember the chart with a picture of a girl and a toy boat and figuring out the “code”. The words under the picture read: “Sue has a sailboat”. I remember the Dr. Suess books that my mom and dad bought through a book club that arrived in the mail every month. I remember spending all my time in third grade reading every Bobsey Twin mystery ever written. I remember moving on from there to Nancy Drew. In high school my favorite class was Independent Reading. I aced that class and even read enough to help my friend get an A as well. That love of reading is why I pursued my master’s degree in learning disabilities. I want to share the gift of reading with children, especially those who need extra help to break that code. I wish that more children loved to read, but the reality is that computers, TV, and video games are the activities they choose to spend their time on. Sadly, this is true for my own daughter, too. Even with me modeling the enjoyment of reading, she would rather play Nintendo, watch Friends, or IM her friends than open a book. Oh, for the simple pleasures of a bedtime story!
