Assignment C was to journal my passion, which for me is wearing, applying, and obsessively buying make-up. The image is actually an acrylic stamp that was scanned and enlarged, then printed n cardstock. I used colored pencils to apply make-up on the face. Used a blush brush as part of the title. pp is by KI Memories: the dots reminded me of a make-up compact case of all different colors.Journaling reads:My passion for make-up started out very early. I don’t recall the exact year, but it must have been 7th or 8th grade when I amassed my collection of Cover Girl lip gloss. Attending a Catholic middle school meant that wearing make-up was not an option. I remember fervently defending myself to Miss Cosgriff and delineating the glaring difference between lip gloss and lipstick :”Lip gloss is NOT lipstick! The gloss is sheer, like Chap stick with a hint of color!”. None of the teachers understood this apparent difference, because a multitude of demerits were written out for this offense. The reason for my fascination with make-up has been the same for the 7th grade girl as it is for the 30 year old woman now – it gives me an instant confidence boost! I do not wear make-up to impress others, I do it purely for me. This morning ritual has strong healing powers to my soul. On many occasions, I succeeded in raising myself out of a low funk, or the misery of an approaching illness, just by painting my face. Even with the birth of our first child, maintaining this morning ritual made me feel like I’m still a sexy mama who hasn’t let herself go. This meditative, daily interaction with a drawer-full of colors, makes me feel pampered, beautiful, and ready to face the world –nothing short of a superwoman!I do get quite a few compliments on my make-up artistry, and none were more flattering than being asked to do my sister’s and best friend’s wedding day make-up. Another instance of recognition came during my Occupational Therapy graduation dinner, when awards for ”Most likely to…” were handed out. I was voted as “Most likely to invent adaptive equipment for make-up application to be utilized by the disabled”.Yes, I do consider myself to be a face artist with a belief that money may not buy you happiness, but purchasing the right shade of lipstick is a temporary bliss!
