The candle is passed from sister to sister for three reasons: as an expression of friendship within the sorority, to show that an Alpha Delta Pi has been lavaliered, and especially to reveal the engagement of a sister. The engaged sister lights the candle in order to share her light with her sisters. they pass it around the circle, for as we know, only by sharing our light with others will our own light grow brighter.”
