My first published layout. Journaling Reads - It all started in January 2003 when I accidentally stumbled on a house for sale in Lake Oswego priced far under its market value. It was a large house on a good sized lot in a quiet neighborhood but it needed a major kitchen renovation. We’d been through enough remodeling for awhile and this wasn’t meant to be but it sure did get us thinking … and so it began. I spent many hours on the computer looking at houses and reading about schools. While Brad worked, the kids and I drove thru neighborhoods and toured model homes. We were zeroing in on the suburbs of West Portland - Tigard, Tualatin, or Sherwood. One afternoon after visiting a friend in Sherwood, I found a D.R. Horton subdivision. With kids in tow I toured several homes and left with copies of multiple floor plans. One floor plan (The Brighton) was interesting but they didn’t have the home built in Sherwood and they suggested I tour their homes at Pacific Crest on Bull Mountain in Tigard. It was now April 2003 and we had been slowly working on getting our house ready to be put on the market. One Saturday we drove up to Bull Mountain in Tigard with the sole purpose of looking at The Brighton floor plan we couldn’t see in Sherwood. The model homes were gorgeous, 3 levels backing to a green space, stainless appliances, beautiful hardwoods, 3 car garages and elaborate tile throughout. Then we looked at The Brighton; it was better in real life than it was on paper and I fell in love immediately. I knew we were in trouble - our house wasn’t even on the market yet. As we left we asked how much and what lots were available. We couldn’t believe our ears the price was in our budget but they were only building it on 2 more lots and one hadn’t even been released yet. Over the next month I kept an eye on the one remaining lot in Tigard and we got our house ready to sell. I can’t remember the exact date we put our house on the market but it was towards the end of May right before Memorial Day. We were selling the house ourselves without the help of a real estate agent so we could have as much money as possible to make such a big move. We had lots of lookers over the first week and even one offer. We were thrilled, an offer in our first week but the buyer backed out. It was a frustrating time and Brad and I went back and forth on whether we should make a contingency offer on the house in Tigard. On Brad’s birthday June 7th 2003 we went and made an offer on lot #2 at Pacific Crest contingent on our house selling; we had 90 days. Luck was on our side! A young couple viewed our house several times during the days following Brad’s birthday and by the weekend we had a solid offer; the SOLD sign went up at lot #2 at Pacific Crest. Looking back I regret not taking any pictures of the empty lot or the early stages of the house being built but maybe part of me thought if I did I would jinx us. Papers by KI, CBX and Color by Design. Lil Davis chip board letters and MM rubons the metal charm is by AMM. I had fun scanning in tons of docuements from when we purchased our home - I saved them knowing I would eventually use them on a LO. Thanks for looking :)
