THis is for Cynthia's (blueribbonmom)journal. Her topic was “911”. I just used cardstock and a bit of Rusty Pickle pp…and ink. ETA journaling. “I would like for you to meet Lindsey Romack. She’s my niece, the oldest grandchild in the Romack family. Lindsey was quite the accomplished center fielder on her high school softball team. She was so talented, in fact, the Army took note of her skills and awarded her a full scholarship to attend West Point! Our whole family was so proud of her and I know my brother-in-law was relieved that the financial burden of paying for a 4-yr college was over. Lindsey started college like every other student…wide eyed and bushy-tailed! Less than a month into her first semester, the world changed. It wasn’t supposed to be like that. Lindsey planned on finishing her undergraduate work and apply for law school immediately following. On that fateful day of September 11, 2001, all her hopes and dreams vanished.…and we were scared. 71% of the Class of 911 would be going to Iraq or Afghanistan in as little as one year after graduation. During the course of Lindsey’s 4 years at West Point, 23 alumni had lost their lives in combat. The staff rotated into the classroom straight from combat zones, bringing back combat skills—and scars. The war loomed constantly in everyone’s mind and 911 had started it all. Lindsey went straight to Officer’s training upon graduation in May of 2005. She spent the next year in Germany for more training. In October of 2006 she was sent to Iraq, replacing an injured leader. She is now the platoon leader of the 2nd TUAV, Turbulent. We pray we have her home soon.”
