My childhood friend passed away today at noon after being diagnosed with uterine cancer 2 months ago. Here is a small tribute to our relationship together. I left the photos off out of respect to be added in later. The text reads: We were 4 years old when we met, 52 years ago. She lived in the corner house across from the horse stables. I lived up the street. She was covered in freckles and had beautiful auburn hair. I was short, with mousy brown hair and glasses. We became best friends and sometimes competitors. In a time when kids could wander the neighborhood freely, we explored the world together. We climbed the 20 foot tower swing in the woods without getting hurt. We played on my swing set for hours living in pretend worlds. We used to hide under the horse jumps eating unsweetened koolaid right out of the packet we grew up together. When we were 13 we went camping at Lake Chelan. We had so much fun pretending to be all grownup and flirting with boys, We thought we were so clever having our photo taken under one way sign pretending to hitchhike the opposite way. We went roller skating on Friday nights riding the bus together. We competed in the Jr Miss Pageant together. She did a gymnastic routine for her talent; I dressed as a veteran in fatigues with a missing leg, played the guitar singing an anti-war ballad It was early 70's in the middle of the Vietnam war. When we graduated from high school, her mom gave us matching pendant watches. I went to college; she met a man, got married and birthed 3 boys She went through some difficult marital times, separated, reunited, but eventually divorced. Turning to her faith she decided to reinvent her life. She moved, left family and friends behind, She changed her name, and began a new identity. Over time she began to reconnect with old friends, met a man, fell in love, and married. She was there for him when shortly after they wed, he suffered a heart attack He was there for her when she found out she had cancer. She died too young…not quite 56, but she died having known love…the love of family and friends. So no matter what name we knew her by, be it Pam, or Lynn; Brown, Duncan or Darwood She will be missed. May she be at peace now.

Adapted QP (Sleepy Yesterday) by Scrapeez
