Altered Memory Jeweled Christmas Stocking

This is a tradition that dh's grandmother started when he was a little boy. She made each of the 6 kids a jeweled stocking, made from her own costume jewelry, in a theme that represented the grandchild. Dh's is a Pirate theme cuz she thought he would be the most successful. I've carried on the tradition with my own kids, and made them jeweled stockings to match dh's. My sons has the Space Shuttle on it, depicting his adventurous side, and because the very first Space Shuttle landed on the morning he was born. Dd's has horses on it cuz she's in love with horses. This stocking is for DIL, and depicts her move from the mountains of Colorado, to the sunny beaches of Santa Cruz. (Can ya see the little person on the rollercoaster?) Dh actually designed the stocking, and I glued and sewed it together. We went to the flea market in search of the perfect pieces to create the beach scene. (notice “Carlee” carved in the sand? I did that cuz on the day they found out she was a girl, we went to the beach, and they carved her name in the sand) Each stocking has the same tree on the top, and that's where the jewelry from our past, or that has special memories to us is placed. Because I don't have anything that has sentimental value to Denne', I used pieces that represents her. There's a pin that says, “Babies are Beautiful”, a picture of their baby, and an “M” for “mom”. I also found a little pin with crutches on it to represent her love for health care, and it also represents the memories of her working with Roy Horne. I just found a pin that is an artists pallet that I will be adding too. Each stocking also has something dangling from the toe, so I used a bracelet I found at the flea market, with fish, seahorses and shells on it. Anyway….I hope this inspires you to get out those old necklaces that your first boyfriend gave you, and stick it on a memory stocking. I saved ALL the jewelry that was given to me through the years, and I never wear it anymore, so it will all go on MY stocking that dh and dd are working on to surprise me. (I have NO idea what they're doing, but they wanna make one for me cuz I never made one for myself. How kewl is THAT!!!) Anyway….TFL….
