Well, my family LOVES seafood, especially crab. So, I decided to finally do a page about it! This is Fontwerks paper which I just adore and I stamped on it to shake things up. The ribbon is Maya Road.Journaling: One of our favorite things to do as a family is to make a big seafood dinner at home. We don’t do it very often because of the expense, but when we spurge on seafood, it is a special treat for everyone. I have to laugh because Sterling at age six will completely pass up the candy and cookie aisles in the grocery store if I will give in to his constant begging to buy shrimp, crab, scallops or fish. One Saturday afternoon I headed to Publix to pick up some milk and I saw that they had Dungeness crabs on sale for a fantastic price. I decided surprise everyone and purchase a bunch of them. When I came home and showed my family what I bought, Sterling was started jumping up and down in excitement and Chris’s face broke into a huge grin. I tried to show Preston the crabs but he was so scared that he ran upstairs immediately.Chris set the table for us and Sterling sat on the counter and watched as I prepared the steamer with water and spices. We waited for the water to boil and then he helped me drop in the crabs, one by one. The three of us must have looked funny staring at the pot, anxiously awaiting for the crabs to be steamed. You could smell the aroma of the spices in the air and the anticipation was undeniable. Finally they were ready and the three of us sat down to enjoy our seafood feast. I tried to temp Preston to come to the table, but he decided to wait until the crabs were gone. Sterling intently watched as I showed him how to crack the shells in just the right places to easily get the meat out. That first bite of crab dipped in clarified butter was just heavenly. We ate in silence for the first few minutes and then went back to cracking the legs open to get more meat out. Nights like this remind me of my childhood growing up in Seattle and eating the same exact dinners with my family. I hope Sterling passes on his love of seafood and this tradition to his own family one day.
