For the journaling challenge @ MScraps. Everything mine @ MScraps, from A Little Birdie Told Me…. Fonts: Octin Spraypaint (title), and Typewriter Scribbled.Journaling reads:'I feel sort of silly about this, now. And yet, the fear was real.On March 11, 2011, there was a terrible earthquake off the east coast of Japan–across the Pacific Ocean from us. We don’t have television, but the news spread like wildfire on the net. And then… a tsunami. I saw it happen over and over again, in countless videos online: pristine blue waves, froth white in the sunlight, lined up neatly as they raced towards the shore. And then, they turned black with dirt. They carried boats, then cars, then entire houses on their scurrying backs. They hauled everything they could reach as far inland as they could get. Jumpy phone cameras recorded unimaginable power; inexorable destruction. And when you thought it couldn’t get worse, the waters rose even higher. The sounds were haunting: sirens, and voices–not so much screaming, but voiced in horrified crescendos, in rising disbelief and panic. And then: the USGS site went from green, to yellow, to red. The tsunami was coming. We had no prepared kit, and we quickly had to determine what was essential: our pets, food, water, clothing, official documents, my external hard drive. Quickly quickly we gathered everything. Allen was terrified, crying hysterically as he waited for us in the car. The cats, squeaking in indignation, rode in their crate in the back of the car with the dog. I put together 3 gallons of water; two pounds of cheese; crackers and peanut butter for Allen. Blankets were stuffed wherever there was a nook. And we shrieked out of the driveway; first stop, the fire station, to see if Eddie was needed for medical purposes. They told us to go home; the waves wouldn’t be there till morning. And when they did come, they were all but invisible.'
