These guys come to Yachats 2, 3 times a year by invitation of the owners of the Green Salmon, Yachats's awesome community living room. It was fascinating to stand and watch them at work: they fill those big long metal funnels with different color sands, then “scratch” at them with an implement that causes the sand to slowly flow out the funnel onto their design. An interesting realization for me was that they were all “drawing” with their left hands, and using the scratcher with their right. After a while, I also realized that the sound of mandala-making was incredibly soothing, and almost hypnotic. A fascinating glimpse into a different art world!Credits: Actual honest-to-goodness real live papers from Far Flung Crafts. Glitter by Art Rage (my own brushes, though). Fonts: AW-Siam English Not Thai and Trebuchet. Journaling reads: “The monks bless us with their calm serenity and their patient art.”
