This layout was done in response to a DT call that required a layout explaining what your favorite number is and why. (I didn't make it, but still like the layout.) I picked 26, the number of letters in the alphabet. My goal with this was to let loose my artistic inhibitions and just play (see, Ali? I'm learning!) :) Journalling: The alphabet. A to Z. Alpha to omega – beginning to end. It’s the first lesson we learn in school, and yet as Big Bird so profoundly put it, “If I could only figure out just what this word could mean / I’d be the smartest bird the world has ever seen.” I am a writer by trade, and these 26 little symbols are, quite literally, my building blocks. Without them, the computer screen is a blank void of nothingness; with them, I can translate thoughts into an infinite number of concrete shapes, creating poetry out of a string of simple black-and-white symbols on a page. When God spoke, the universe was born, and with the birth of Christ, Logos – the Word – shrank infinity into human form. “I feel it now: there’s a power in me to grasp and give shape to my world,” wrote Rainer Maria Rilke. Through these 26 letters, I am able to harness that power, and connect to infinity.Supplies used: Star patterned paper (Imaginisce), negative strip (Creative Imaginiations), die-cut journalling block (Foofala), letter and shape stickers (Creative Imaginations), alphabet stamps (Stampin' Up), yellow “unbutton” (Little Black Dress Designs), sequins, apple and cherry appliques and red and green string (Poppy Ink kit), pointing finger stamp (Fontwerks), number stamps (source unknown), poetry beads and heart bead (source unknown)Techniques: The paper doll is my own design. The strings of words were shaped to form the classic “infinity” symbol.TFL!Carmen.
