Journaling reads: Friday night, way past my bedtime, barefoot, shivering, and sorting through Christmas boxes in the garage. I have hundreds of ribbon in my craft room, but I know that the perfect metallic gold ribbon for my layout is in one of the Christmas boxes. Only this ribbon will do. Why go to all this trouble for one ribbon? Because I love scrapbooking. A few hours later… Finally finishing the final page of a surprise album I’ve made for my parents’ 50th anniversary celebration, just two days away. The album represents 34 layouts, compiling offerings from 18 families, and countless hours of hard work. I’m proud of my accomplishment, and hope that my parents enjoy their gift. Why go to all of this trouble for one album? Because I love my parents. A few minutes later… I drag Clint off the sofa and he takes a picture of me proudly displaying the final page of my parents’ album. Patiently, he takes almost a dozen shots, until my smile doesn’t look too goofy and there’s no glare on the transparency pocket. Why go to all this trouble for one photo? Because he loves me. Actions speak louder than words. I definitely believe in saying “I love you,” but I also try to remember that there are signs of love in all the things – big and small – that we do for each other as a family. In my opinion, having a husband who will take my picture in the middle of the night says a lot more about his love for me than the words themselves. 2/24/04
