I was glad that the theme this month was mini/themed albums. I wanted to do an album about my girls' summer swim team and this was the push that I needed to actually get one finished. I did an album last year too and it probably would have been smart of me to set up some sort of album scheme that I could just add to each year. But, I'm not that smart, and I'm easily bored, so I just went ahead and did another stand alone mini album.
One of the hardest things about being a part of the garden, for me, is seeing all the other girls' projects while I'm in the midst of doing my own. Lisa McGarvey showed us her gorgeous Pennsylvania album a couple of days ago (have you seen it? If not, stop right now and go take a peek at it. It's awesome. Go on. I'll wait.) The other girls often make such meaningful things and use product so perfectly. It's intimidating. So, I sat down to my simple little album that's just about swimming and had a hard time getting started.
My original plan was to use an <a href=http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/shop.asp?derMars=2300B2105DA10F3510F95 [twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com]“> American Crafts modern 6x6 binder , but then I got this little 7gypsies journal in my last 2peas order and I couldn't resist using it. I do that a lot - go for the stuff that's on top of the pile. I really like using all one product for a theme album - I'm just not good at putting lots of different stuff together - so when I saw the Basic Grey Obscure Collection on top of the pile, I took a look. To be honest, I'm not sure why I bought the paper. It's really neat looking, but it's way cooler and ”edgier" than I can pretend to be. But as I looked at it more closely, I really liked the colors in it and thought they went well with my pictures. I realized that if I cut the papers up, the motifs that didn't really work with my theme just turned into lines on the background, so I went with it. I paired it with white cardstock to make it seem a bit brighter.
I resized a bunch of photos from the season and put them on an 8x10 canvas and had them printed. I wanted to use a lot of photos in the album, as I took a bunch this season. The cover of the album is from the packaging of the Basic Grey paper pack. That little swimmer was sent to me by a generous garden girl when I realized that the Scenic Route pack containing it was sold out. Because I make a lot of mistakes when scrapping, I haven't secured the cover elements very well, in case I wanted to make changes. I need to go back now and glue it all down securely, maybe use some modpodge to protect it.
I've always admired those simple schematics that people use for theme albums, but I'm not very good at following them. I just figured out the basic sections and then designed each page as I went. I then went back and added in all the statistical information and journaling.
I'm happy with the result - it contains all the information that I wanted to keep about this season and I'm hoping my kids will be able to look at it to see their progress from year to year.
Supplies
7Gypsies Naked Journal
Basic Grey Obscure Paper, Diecuts, and Letter Stickers
Scenic Route Chipboard Circle
7Gypsies Round Stamp
Creative Imagination Chipboard Letters (for title)
7Gypsies Label Sticker Book
Black Cardstock
White Cardstock
American Crafts Slick Writer
