I created this for the final round of the ScrapForums “Funk It Up” contest…and I won for digital entries! :) Yippee!! —-My little sister is my very best friend and as we approach her 25th birthday and our 25th year of life together, I wanted to make a little something to celebrate. The 25 squares are 1 for each of the years we've spent together and are filled with little quotes and pictures of us. Thank you so much for looking! ~Teresa
Journaling: 25 years ago, I met you- my best friend and only sister. It is my earliest memory- Dad and I walking out of the hospital gift shop with a soft green baby doll that I got to give you as a present from your big sister. It’s not surprising that this memory is so vivid in my memory. Even at the age of 2, I knew you were something special. We’ve shared a lifetime of memories together. We know each other like no one else does, the forever friend to turn to for comfort and strength, a simple hug, or words of encouragement. I take pride in knowing that you think of me as your confidant and protector- being a big sister has been the joy of my life. I always got to do everything first and you’ve followed suit, except for those ear piercings (what was mom thinking?). We’ve been in all of the same classes through the years, same teachers, same sports (go Flivvers, state tennis champs!), same college major, even the same sorority. Having the honor of of pinning you as my little sister in DPhiE and as a legacy was a very proud moment. While we’ve shared so much, we do differ in a few key ways- I’ve always been the adventurer, the one who follows my dreams no matter where they take me or how lofty the goal. You’re the carefree and “go with the flow” soul I’ve always wanted to be. You take life’s ups and downs in stride and know your strengths and weaknesses, making them work for you. We are the perfect balance for one other. I will never forget the day I had to leave you to move out East. Driving away from you, my family, friends, and home was the most difficult journey of my life. It’s never been easy living so far away from the person who means the most to me. We’ve shared so much of our lives together and while I know there will inevitably be more times when we cry (or sob) on each other’s shoulders, I cherish each and every time we share a laugh, smile, secret memory or special time together. As you prepare for your wedding this summer, I’m reminded of how sweet life will be once we get to live it together again. We’re entering a new chapter in our lives, hopefully blessed with children, more kitties and an abundance of love. I’ll be finished with school soon and have come to learn that although venturing out on my own has been a valuable experience, the most important thing I’ve learned is that there truly is no place like home, and that home is not a place, but with the people I love dearest to my heart. Someday I hope we can live close enough to have our own little ones develop a friendship and sisterhood as strong as ours, because you- little sister, are the best gift I’ve ever been given.
Credits: Peachy Keen by Rhonna Farrer at 2 Peas in a Bucket, Dot brush by Jen Wilson at Scrapbook-Bytes, Word art quotes from DigitalScrapbookPlace, ScrapArtist, and Heather Ann Designs.
