I made this for Daria's Layers Challenge, and I've been working on it off and on for days! The 2nd picture shows the nice, clean brick background I had … and then stenciled the greeting over it. It looked pretty gloppy to me, and I didn't want to lose my background so I wiped the Dreamweavers Gloss Black embossing paste over the whole card with a baby wipe. I kind of used it as my paint/grout. The wipe also took off some of the fired brick distress ink as you can see in the 3rd picture. I laid the brick stencil back over the background and used a sweepy style stencil brush to put some color back in the bricks and you can see the finished grunge background in the last picture. Oh well, it's not the card I started out to make, but I think I salvaged it!Stencils : The Crafters Workshop Mini Bricks, and one piece from a set of small, cheap light weight plastic stencils (holly). Dreamweavers Christmas sentiment. The background was made on 140lb Canson watercolor paper. The focal piece was stamped on SU white cs.Here are the steps :I used Golden molding paste through the brick stencil, let it dry.I put the stencil back down and pounced fired brick distress ink through it.I put molding paste through the holly stencil in 2 areas.Let it dry.I pounced green paint through through the holly stencil and went over the berries with a red spica pen. Then, I used gloss black embossing paste with the Merry Christmas stencil. Didn't like it, and wiped the paste all over the brick background with a baby wipe. ugh!Laid the brick stencil back down and brushed in some more brick red distress ink.The stamped focal piece was cut down from the original stamp (Stampers Anonymous First Christmas)to use a smaller portion and not obscure the entire background! It was stamped with Ranger Archival jet black and I used sponge daubers and distress ink to color it. Inked the edges, mounted on white and then black cs and foam mounted it to the background. Thanks Daria, most of the time I did enjoy this challenge! haha! I'm glad I got my stencils and pastes out of hibernation and I think I'll keep them out for a while. I want to give the Christmas stencil another chance on a nice flat piece of watercolor paper, and I will go easier on the paste.TFL!
