Finally did a LO with these cool pictures a took in the yard with everything covered in a layer of ice. I loved how the crocus looked and my lilac that was just starting to bud out had a ball of ice. Definately didn't like the destruction that went along with it, but it was beautiful at the beginning of the storm. These pictures were taken about lunchtime on the Friday of the storm and the ice continued to build up for another 14 hours after that. The journaling reads-In April of 2003, we had a severe ice storm. A storm that they say only happens every 100 hundred years. Unfortunately the last ice storm like that had only occurred in 1991. We lost power for 4 days with 40o F temperatures. We borrowed a friends generator for the last 2 days, when his power came back on. Matt missed 2 days of school. The first day was a Friday during the storm and then again on Monday because the whole town was still without power. Friday night was kind of scary because as the ice built up more and more tree limbs were breaking off with big thundering booms and shattering of ice that sounded like glass breaking. To make matters worse Tom went out at the height of the storm at 11:00 pm with our neighbor to rescue his 85 year old mother-in-law from her home because she was alone and getting afraid. Tom kept the basement from flooding by borrowing a gas powered pump. Once he got the flow going it just kept siphoning by gravity. We used the fireplace to keep warm and the kids thought it was a great adventure. They still slept in their beds with some extra blankets to keep them warm and flashlights for their nightlights. Tom and I slept on the sofabed because our waterbed was just too cold to sleep on. We had lost power on Friday night about 9:15pm and the power finally came back on Tuesday around 1:00 pm. I was very grateful when that happened. Things could finally get back to normal. Bazzill CS, Offray ribbon, MM alphabets and eyelets, Helena's Hand for the font. TFL Melinda
