On the Discussion Thread (linked above), Sophikins posted this link to a tutorial for this technique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0V1ixBydxc. [youtube.com] I loved the look the artist got by using acrylic paint and a stylus so I tried it out, and it works great.
I had sprayed the background piece a very long time ago so I don't remember the colors I used. The piece was in the shape of a house so I had to be a bit creative when trimming the image. I used a quilters' ruler to trim it and Perfect Layers to trim the mat.
I tried stamping on the background with a few different blacks. I got the best image with the CBFC Ink Pad. They didn't sell a black when I bought mine so I used Charcoal.
I used the Uni-ball Signo White Pigment Pen on the lines and the acrylic paint applied with a stylus on the dots. I love the way the stylus releases the paint so that subsequent dots are progressively smaller until you reink the stylus.
I forgot that you have to heat set CBFC ink to make it permanent. By the time I had put on the white and cut everything down, I noticed the white looking dirty. When I rubbed the charcoal ink with a white cloth, it was coming off! I had to clean it off the white areas with a skewer covered by a baby wipe. Then I heat set it and went over all the white parts with the Signo Pen to brighten them up again. An hour later, I could still rub off a bit of ink so I sprayed the whole thing with the fixative.
