Nora S., Cheryl (cgee), Melody (CA-Melody), and I went to the Stamp on Over Marathon Christmas Class on November 2. The last session of the class was offered on the 13th so I think it's all right for me to post these cards now. This was my second Marathon Class so I didn't learn anything new to share with you this time, but I got to practice using the glue gun some more, and I worked with more dies. There was a lot of die cutting, but most of it was done for us ahead of time. I can't imagine the amount of time that went into the preparation for these classes. They even made the ribbons for us (Cards 1, 3, and 7). Just like last time, we stayed until the store closed and still needed to finish our cards at home. I didn't feel so badly this time since I heard some ladies say they would come back during the week to work on their cards.I wrote down what stamps we used, but I can't find the paper I used. I have spent a lot of time today trying to find out exactly which dies and stamps we used, and I found most of them.CARDS:4 1/4“ x 5 1/2”5“ square (Card #1)5 1/2” square (Card #5)CARD #1:Sentiment is unknown. I messed it up twice. This was the better of the two.Memento Ink, Tuxedo BlackMemory Box Die, Shaker FrameImpression Obsession Dies, Twig Wreath SetCheery Lynn Die, Wreath Strip (for the pine pieces that cover the twig wreath) Unknown punch to add more pine pieces to the wreath. It might have been a McGill or a Martha Stewart punch. The little holly leaves were cut from another die cut piece. The three outer sections of the Shaker Frame were taped together before removing them from the die in order to make a frame that wide. The patterned paper in the center was also cut with the that die.I spent a lot of time die cutting the pieces for this card. It would have been easier if I'd had a magnetic shim and if I hadn't kept forgetting to put the wax paper between the die and the cardstock. It took a long time to get the pieces out of the die after they had been cut.CARD #2:Memory Box Die, CandlesMy Favorite Things, Die-namics Die, Dainty BowsMemory Box Die, Delacie BorderStampendous Jeweled Gold Embossing PowderPearlsCrystal Stickles (I used this instead of the large flat-back pearls they provided.)Patterned PapersWhite Glitter PaperFortunately, all the pieces for this card had already been die cut. The candle had been die cut three times?once from burgundy patterned paper, once from two-tone green patterned paper, and once from white glitter paper. Our job was to use parts of the three different die cuts to make the candles. The burgundy piece was heat embossed with the gold EP, and I loved the effect that gave. The bottom of the border die cut was also embossed with the same EP. I didn't think I'd like the paper bow, but once I put it together with glue dots, I really did like it. It looks better in real life.CARD #3:Memory Box Stamp, Snowy EvergreensMemory Box Sentiment Stamp, Merry Little ChristmasMemory Box Die, Virtuoso MusicJudikins White Diamond Embossing PowderMemento Ink, Desert Sand and Tuxedo BlackBow – This was already made for us.The trees were stamped with a green pigment ink. When it had dried, we used a Versamark pen to go over the trees and dots. Then we heat embossed it with the White Diamond EP.I love the Memory Box sentiment stamps, but I needed a stamp positioner to stamp them. The rubber dies were not lined up correctly on the wood blocks so they could not be stamped straight.CARD #4:Memory Box Stamp, Walking Winter WonderlandMemory Box Die, Sussex GlobeMemory Box Die, Precious MittensTonic Studios Ticket & Tag Corner Paper Punch DuoHelmar LIQUID SCRAP DOTS Adhesive GlueSticklesGemsI had never used Liquid Scrap Dots before. It's very thick and our directions said to put it on the back of the white die cut and not to press down when we put it on the dotted patterned paper. That way it would provide dimension. I'm afraid I couldn't stop myself from pressing it down just a little bit. I didn't trust it to adhere by just putting it in place. Mine doesn't have as much dimension as it should have.Next time . . .CARD #5:Unknown Sentiment StampMemory Box Die, Crystal SnowflakeMemory Box Die, Lindeman SnowflakeCuttlebug Swiss Dots Embossing FolderVersaMagic Ink Pad, Red Brick (to highlight the embossed dots on the background piece)Memento Ink Pad, Rhubarb Stalk (to distress the patterned paper trees)Bling – pearls, gems, faux metallic “dots”Swarovski Flatback Rhinestone, Crystal, SS30 (I added that at home.)CARD #6:Memory Box Die, Grand Merry ChristmasFiskar Border Punch, Effervescence (to punch the strip of patterned paper used to make the rosette)Memory Box Stamp, Mistletoe Bundle (cute stamp used on the inside)Bling – faux metallic dots (I don't know what these are.)CARD #7:Hero Arts Stamp, Merry Christmas Writing, F5856Cuttlebug Swiss Dots Embossing FolderMartha Stewart Edge Punch, Daisy (on the white dotted green patterned paper)Memento Ink, Tuxedo Black (used on sentiment)Memento Ink, Bamboo Leaves (used on the embossed Swiss Dots piece) It had been a while since I made one of these trees so I appreciated the review of how to make it.This is the only card that did not have inserts. I wonder if I just missed that part.I tried to glue the lace piece down, but it just absorbed the glue. I ended up just taping it down on the back, and I did the same thing with the ribbon.CARD #8:Memory Box Stamp, Merry Christmas Flourish, B1953Delicata Pigment Ink, Golden GlitzPoppystamps / Memory Box Die, Blooming PoinsettiaMemory Box Die, Gwyneth Flourish (cut from glitter paper)Memory Box Die, Music VirtuosoMemory Box Die, Cherise LabelImpression Obsession Die, Pine Branch (cut into two pieces)SticklesIt's too bad you can't see the pretty sentiment. Sigh. The instructions warned us not to glue anything down until we?d positioned everything . . .I enjoyed the class, and maybe what I needed to learn was to read all of the directions and to follow them. There was so little time . . .TFL.Daria
