These are backgrounds I made for Jan's (Far North's) Backgrounds with WOW Challenge. http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&forum_id=22&thread_id=3256574 [twopeasinabucket.com]Jan, thank you for this challenge. I loved doing it.I wish you could see the sparkle and shine. I can see it on my computer if I make the images larger, but we can't see it here. All the specks you see, are sparkles. #7 and #8 have shiny embossing on them. #9 has a gorgeous, but subtle, sparkle you can't see at all. Sigh. The design on the last two pieces doesn't really qualify as a background, but I added the pieces here since the challenge is what led me to make them. I had a lot of fun making these. I inked the blue ones last night so they would have plenty of time to dry. I've spent all morning finishing those and making the rest of them. There were a few pieces that hit the waste paper basket as I experimented. SCANS #3-#6 were the first backgrounds I made.Judikins Mattekote cardstockDistress Inks–Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, Salty Ocean, Dusty ConcordTim Holtz Alterations Texture Fades–Snow Flurries Versamark InkEmbossing Powders–Stampendous Opaque Winter Wonderland, Judikins Diamond Sparkle, and Judikins Extreme PeacockAll four pieces were inked with Distress Inks using Tim Holtz's Wrinkle Free Watercolor Technique. I used four different ink pads to apply ink directly to the craft mat, spritzed with water, and laid the cardstock in the ink.I used Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire and Salty Ocean to ink the first and last pieces; on the two center pieces I substituted Dusty Concord for the Salty Ocean. When the ink was dry, I put the pieces through the embossing machine. I used a 5 3/4" brayer to apply Versamark to the embossed design. Then I heat embossed it with Stampendous Winter Wonderland Opaque Embossing Powder on the first two. On the next one I used Judikins Diamond Sparkle EP (loved that one!). On the last one I used Judikins Extreme Peacock. It looks white in the jar, but it seems to be a clear EP with Holographic sparkle. The colors change as you move it.SCANS #1 & #2Judikins Mattekote cardstockCuttlebug Christmas Ornament Embossing FolderKaleidacolor Ink, FruitcakeRanger Star Dust SticklesI brayered the ink on the inside of the embossing folder. First, I inked the raised design going for a letterpress effect; the ornaments are inked and debossed. In the second scan, the ornaments are embossed, and the background is inked. When using ink on the inside of the folder, it helps to send it through the embossing machine slowly (I go through and back again.) so that the ink has a chance to work on the cardstock. When everything was dry, I brayered over the embossed areas (white areas) with the Stickles. I love the way these pieces turned out, especially the debossed one.SCAN #7Judikins Mattekote cardstockDistress Inks – Scattered Straw and Antique LinenCuttlebug Diamonds in the Rough Embossing FolderVersamark InkJudikins Rustique Patina Jade Embossing PowderSparkle N Sprinkle Antiquities Embossing PowderI used Tim Holtz Foam Ink Applicators to apply the ink to the cardstock. When it was dry, I embossed the piece in the Cuttlebug machine. I used a brayer to apply Versamark to the embossed image and heat embossed with the Rustique Patina EP. Then I brayered more Versamark here and there and heat embossed with the Antiquities EP.SCAN #8Judikins Mattekote cardstockDistress Inks–Stormy Sky and Pumice StoneTim Holtz Alteration Texture Fades, Retro CirclesVersamark InkRanger Clear Superfine Embossing PowderI applied ink with Tim Holtz Foam Ink ApplicatorsWhen it was dry, I embossed the piece with the Cuttlebug machine. I used a brayer to apply Versamark to the embossed design and heat embossed it.This folder began to tear through the paper. Normally, I would add a piece of printer paper over the cardstock to eliminate that, but I didn't think of it beforehand. I decided I liked the distressed look of the slightly broken paper and kept it.SCANS #9-#10Carnival 80-lb. Vellum, New Forest GreenCuttlebug Holly Embossing FolderVersamark Dazzle Ink, FrostBrilliance Ink, Moonlight WhiteI used a letterpress technique on these two pieces. I inked the raised design on the inside of the embossing folder. I wiped away any ink that landed off the design. Then I ran it through the Cuttlebug and back again, slowly so that the ink would have time to transfer to the recessed design in the cardstock.Thank you for looking. I'll make cards with some of these later.
