I've seen this technique a few times and wanted to try it out. Every time I would see it, I would remember that there was a trick to it.
The other day, I saw this card by Blafarge: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/gallery/member/565070-blafarge/1873950-christmas-card/, [twopeasinabucket.com] and I knew it was time to give it a whirl.
I found this video tutorial by Dawn Olchefske: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmculp_tz74. [youtube.com] The trick–you stamp all three layers at the same time; it's so easy.

12/09/12, ETA: I added another card. It was the first one I made, but I forgot to add the ribbon before attaching all the layers. Today I made a ribbon wreath to finish off the card. The white flower was part of a RAK from Cindi or the Secret Santa Gift from Daniel–not sure which! Thank you both.
Here's a link to a video tutorial for the ribbon wreath: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8GjkA8MUVs&noredirect=1. [youtube.com] This video has good instructions for making the wreath, but I don't trust the way it was finished off. I tied my loose ends off and wove them into the back before cutting them.
IRL, the colors are more muted, and the ribbon is close to the color of the largest snowflake.
