Heidi Wegman used a Michael Strong image with a paste-embossed background for her Card of the Day on the Enjoy Michael Strong Stamps Yahoo! Group. That's what inspired me to make this card.

4 3/4“ x 6”
Bazzill cardstock – Erie (card), Misty (mat), and Sail (sentiment) (I love the colors and textures in this line of cardstock.)

BACKGROUND
140-lb. hot press watercolor paper
Dreamweaver Stencil – Fans
Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink – Ice Blue and Azurite
Dreamweaver Regular Embossing Paste (white, matte)
Judikins Prisma Glitter

BIRD
Michael Strong Cloisonne Bird
140-lb. hot press watercolor paper
Versamark Ink
Ranger's Seafoam White Embossing Powder
Distress Inks – Stormy Sky, Milled Lavender, Dusty Concord
Recollection Black Pearl for the eye
Best Creation Foam Tape to mount the bird (I like this foam tape because it is not as deep as most.)

SENTIMENT
Quiet Fire Design
Stormy Sky Distress Ink
Ranger Clear Superfine Embossing Powder
Spellbinders' Nestabilities – Labels Eleven

I used a stippling brush to apply the inks onto the wc paper through the stencil and heat set the inks. I waited a couple of hours before putting the cleaned stencil back onto the image and embossing it with the paste. After removing the stencil, I sprinkled on a very small amount of glitter.

I heat embossed the MS bird and then colored it a la Jennifer (Quick Coloring with Distress Inks). If you haven't been following along with Jennifer's Thinking Inking classes, that means I used the Tim Holtz Blending Tool to apply inks to the image. I like the white embossed resist. I attached the bird with foam tape.

I stamped the QFD sentiment with Stormy Sky and heat embossed it with Superfine EP. I used a piece of cardstock that is a lighter shade than the Misty Blue but that has the same texture (Sail). I die cut it and attached it with an ATG Gun.

NOTE: The second scan shows two more embossed birds. I tried stamping them onto pieces I had made during Jan's Retake on Thinking Inking Challenge. As you can see, one worked fine, but the other didn't. FYI, the one that didn't work was painted with Dimensional Pearls. It just didn't release enough of the embossing powder to give a detailed image. I didn't use an embossing buddy; I don't know if that would have made a big enough difference.
