This was my third workshop using metal stencils and embossing paste at Jazzy Crafts in Castro Valley, CA. This time the store hosted Lynell Harlow of Dreamweavers, and she focused on using metal leaf over the paste-embossed image. I love this technique. It gives such beautiful and impressive results. Lynell gave lots of tips as she taught the class. She also gave each of us a stencil. Thank you, Lynell.

All of the stencils and embossing pastes are from Dreamweaver. I used 140-lb. hot press water color paper on the two rose cards.

Note regarding the first card: Lynell had already embossed this rose onto cardstock she'd inked. All I had to do was apply the metal leaf, and I messed it up. Take a look at the last picture up there to see what I mean. We used a dauber to apply glue from a Palette Glue Pad. I only wanted it on the flowers and leaves, but I managed to get it on the stems too. Also, if you look at the bottom part of the image, you can see that I must have pressed down too hard on the dauber because the glue went under the stencil. I won't be using that image. Maybe I can cut it apart and use the flowers? When I got home I tried again.

Card #1 – 5" x 7"'
Bazzill cardstock – Black Op (I like its texture.) and Gold Leaf (shimmers)Watercolor paper sprayed with Stamp Zias Wine, Fire Opal, and Garnet Color Washes and Adirondack's Cranberry Color Wash Spray.
Black Glossy Embossing Paste
Superior's Variegated Red and Variegated Green Metal Leaf
Tsukineko's Glue Pad (This time I used a tiny stippling brush to apply the glue just where I wanted it.) See note at end about glue pads.
Swarovski flatback crystal (SS16, Siam) attached with Sakura's Quickie Glue Pen

Card #2 – 5" x 7"
Bazzil Crimson cs and Judikins Black Glossy cs edged with Tombow black marker
Watercolor paper sprayed with Stamp Zia Ruby Color Wash Jewels and Adirondack's Cranberry and Wild Plum Color Wash, edged with Tombow Marker #757
Black Glossy Embossing Paste
Swarovski flatback crystal (SS16, Jet)

Card #3 – 4 13/16" x 6 1/8"
Bazzill cs a dark blue, Gold Leaf and Brazen (both shimmer)
The cs on the top is a gorgeous blue that glows. Lynell provided that; I wish I knew what it was.
Black Matte Embossing Paste on the vase and Metallic Gold Embossing Paste on the flower
Superior's Variegated Green Metal Leaf (Can you see how different the metal leaf is on the matte embossing paste? It's not as shiny, and I like the antique look it gives.
Tiny Crystals. Lynell also provided these, and they shine beautifully.
Sentiment is POD and it's embossed with Michael Strong's Copper Kettle EP. I thought it looked good with the copper on the vase and the Brazen cs matting.

Card #4 – 4 1/4" x 5 3/4"
Bazzill cs (Matting is Gold Leaf again and an aqua blue shimmer cs, cut with Nestabilities dies
Gold Embossing Paste
Superior Variegated Green Metal Leaf
PSX sentiment heat embossed with Stampa Rosa's Filigree Pure Gold EP

Card #5 – 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
Bazzil cs (The matting is Bazzill Gold Leaf.)
The image is on a beautiful iridescent cs provided by Lynell. I found it difficult to find a color for the card base that would go well no matter how you held the iridescent piece. After making the card, I found the card and envelope that Lynell had given us for this purpose. Oh, well.
Metallic Gold Embossing Paste
Superior Variegated Green Metal Leaf
Swarovski flatback crystals (SS12, Crystal Gold)

Picture #6 – This is just here so you can see what went wrong. It's not a card.

Note regarding glue pads: All of the cards made during the class were made with Superior's Palette Glue Pad. Lynell and a few of the class members said that Tsukineko's Glue Pad didn't work well with this technique. I had already used it at home with good results. I like it because you don't have to heat it before applying the metal leaf. I used it on the two Rose cards that I made at home. It thought it worked fine. I will try the Palette again and see if I notice a difference.
