The challenge is to create a background with the Batik Resist Technique on mulberry paper and to create a card with that background. You must link your gallery post to the Challenge Thread on the Message Board so I won't miss your name when it's time to give away the prize. Names will be drawn out of a hat.I got the idea for this technique from Nancy Curry's Texture Effects for Rubber Stamping. Nancy uses Dr. Phillip Martin's Hydrus Watercolors and applies them with a 3“ foam brush. I don't have those so I sprayed with Stamp Zia's Watercolor Washes.1. Stamp your image on white mulberry paper with embossing ink. I used Versamark.2. Emboss with clear embossing powder.3. Nancy spritzed the mulberry paper before adding the watercolors. I did too, but I probably didn't need to since I was using the washes, not the concentrated watercolor inks. It got pretty wet. Add colors (the Dr. Phillip Martin's Hydrus Watercolors if you have them or whatever you do have).4. Nancy set hers aside to dry. I blotted mine and pulled out the iron.5. Next you need to place the mulberry paper between sheets of clean newsprint or other scrap paper and iron with a hot iron. I put a craft sheet on the ironing board to protect it. Iron until you can see the embossing powder has transferred to the scrap paper. Now the mulberry paper will look like a batik without the shiny EP.Nancy tore her paper while it was still wet. I waited until I was almost done and used a waterbrush to draw a line. I tore at that line. I had stamped all over my paper so it was hard to tear the places where the EP had been. (Hmmm. Maybe I didn't get it all off.) I mounted the mulberry paper on white cardstock so you could see the batik design. The cards are approximately 5 1/2 x 6 1/2 and 4 3/4 x 6. I used three feather images from Stampendous and PSX on the mulberry paper (Nancy used hearts. Maybe you can get your masculine Valentine Challenge done right here. LOL.) I used the largest Stampendous stamp for the focal image. I colored the rubber die with Lyra Watercolor Crayons, misted it, and stamped onto 140-lb, hot-press watercolor paper. I gave the stamped image one more fine spritz. (I like the Judikins mister for this; it's superfine.) I edged the watercolor paper with a Tombow marker and attached it to the mulberry background. The base cards are Bazzil cs. The ”nature's beauty" embellishment is by Making Memories. (That's my concession to Hoarders Anonymous.) The white beads are recycled from a piece of jewelry. The third image shows the plate I'll RAK to the winner of this challenge.I hope lots of you play. Daria
