Well, when I started this late last night, it was going to be my entry for Lianna's Challenge. I kept changing my mind about what to do. I was aiming for Michelle's solid-flower challenge, but I couldn't find an unmounted one that that fit the bill. I had some that could be used with dtr methods but weren't exactly solid. So I decided to do JBgreendawn's stamping-without-ink challenge and just use the wood mounted stamp that I had originally thought of; it's a solid image. I must be getting senile, or maybe it's the lack of sleep. Anyway, I spent a good part of the night making this card only to remember later that I had to use an unmounted stamp to qualify for the challenge. So here's last night's card, and it's back to the drawing board for the challenge. Sigh.

The image is by Annette Allen Watkins. I used Lyra Watercolor Crayons to directly color the rubber. Now I've tried these crayons once before–complete disaster. I was feeling a bit guilty choosing such a quick method to fulfill the challenge so I picked something that I needed to work at. And work I did. I made over a dozen images. I discovered that the “mister” I bought at the store that really has a pretty fine mist isn't good enough. I switched to the Judikin's mister–a world of difference. I tried misting the rubber before coloring, after coloring, wetting the paper before coloring, touching the crayon to water before coloring, etc. I finally made the perfect image, except that I forgot to color the bottom of the basket. So I made some more images. I made a great basket, but lousy flowers. I decided to cut the basket out and put it on the image with the pretty flowers. Unfortunately, I nicked the corner of the basket when I was cutting it out. I had to make another one, and I never did get one that made me happy. So what you see has two baskets over the original. I kind of like it that way.

Then there was the problem of cutting a piece of netting so that it would be a rectangle. Does anyone have a good tip as to how to do that? If the threads aren't straight, the piece doesn't look straight even if it is. I tried my trimmer, I tried a ruler and an Olfa rolling cutter. I used up a 12 x 12 piece to get two adequate pieces.

So there you have my saga. TFL Daria
