Today I tried the Fusible Webbing Technique as described in Suze Weinberg's The Art of Rubber Stamping. In the book, this looks so cool. I, unfortunately, couldn't get it to work for me. Is there anyone out there who knows how to do this?

I believe I followed the directions, but . . . I cut out fusible webbing (I used Pellon Wonder Under) a bit larger than the card and put it over the card. I heated it with a heat tool (Milwaukee, and you know that gets hot). The directions say not to overheat it, just until the webbing adheres to the card. (OK. I admit it; I probably made it adhere to the card too much, and I made seven of them assembly-line fashion.) I brayered some of the cards with Kaleidacolor before adhering the webbing; that looked really neat in the book.

Next, I put detail embossing powder over the webbing. The picture in the book showed a glob of it so I covered the first card completely. (That's the solid gold one; you can see how that turned out.) After that, I put on less embossing powder, but that did not help much. After applying the EP, I heated the card again. At this point, the webbing is suppose to break down and separate. Mine did not.

Well, after that you use this masterpiece as a background. In the book, they used different color EP on a dark background and mounted fish on that one. Another one had black EP on orange cs as a bg for a wicked witch. Yet another one had brayered with rainbow dye ink and then used gold EP; they put a butterfly on that oneā€“gold embossed on white. Oh, you should see how pretty they were. I decided to include a picture from Suze Weinberg's book that I mentioned above. I don't think she'd mind, and my description doesn't begin to do this justice. It's a beautiful book.

OK. I tried to think what had gone wrong. I must have heated the webbing too much in that first step so that it would no longer separate from the cs. I tried again, heating only slightly. When I put the EP on this time, it only stuck to the webbing creases so it looks more like webbing, but still the webbing did not separate. You can see my second attempt in the second post.

If anyone has experience with this technique, please share.

BTW, if you try out a technique that bombs, go ahead and post it for us. Maybe someone can help. Plus, you still get your name in the hat for the drawing. TFL. Daria
