The summer after our family moved to Los Angeles, my Mom drove all of us kids to the beach nearly every day. We'd drive down Santa Monica Blvd. to Santa Monica beach. I can still remember the street cars that traveled in the middle of the street, with their electric lines and clanging bells. My brother and I weren't interested in sun bathing, like our older sisters. We were into building sand castles, digging holes, and burying each other. Gene was braver than I, and spent a lot of time in the water. I recently scanned these old photos from the summer of 1955. Although I have a sand bucket from my childhood, I no longer have the one pictured in the photo. So I was able to find one in an antique store that vaguely resembled my original one. Hidden in the background is an old ‘Little Lulu’ comic, one of my childhood favorites. I also created a bit of sand from a brush & a little drop shadowing.Sweetheart Script & American Typewriter fonts.
