Fun pics of us swimming through the years. Journaling reads:There’s nothing like a 2 foot pool or running through the sprinkler (do kids do that anymore?) on a hot summer day when you’re a kid. Growing up, we spent many afternoons playing in the sprinkler…no slip and slides, no fancy water toys…just a sprinkler and us. I don’t remember having a pool but obviously we had a small one in our driveway at least one summer. Mom, Kenny and I used to go to the Loveland swimming pool…I have a couple pictures of us in the summer of 1964 at the pool…and can still remember the feel of the hot concrete, dipping my legs in the pool and watching the big kids jump in and play. I’ve never been a big water or pool person and became really afraid of water after I nearly drowned in the Little Thompson River while visiting my cousins…Dana, Lori and Sheri. We were crossing one of those wooden swinging bridges across the river and I fell in. I didn’t know how to swim and if it weren’t for my cousins, I would have drowned. I’ve taken swim lessons several times and have flunked every time, so I’m a confirmed land-lubber (and okay with that). Shanna loves going to the swimming pool…that’s always one of her favorite things to do when we’re on vacation. She and Russell usually make a trip to the pool while I sit and read. Our condo community has a swimming pool and Shanna loves to use it. She’s had several pool parties with friends and begs to go to the pool for an hour or two. She’s more comfortable in the water now since we made her take swimming lessons in the summer of 2006. Can’t you close your eyes and smell the chlorine, feel the hot sidewalk and the cool wet grass on your feet, the warmth of the sun on your wet head, listen to the laughter of kids playing…it’s summertime and water play.
