Beautiful layout. My son never made it that far..he was given the option to "opt out" because of some physical problems. He was disappointed in himself, but I'm relieved that he never had to go to Iraq. I will keep you and your son in my prayers. Congratulations to him.
Mary...that brought tears to my eyes to read. I am so happy that this chapter of your life & your son's life together has ended with a POSITIVE feeling. I know that at one time, you were worried about that. :) It is TOTALLY strange to see my little world in the background of that picture! Sometimes I feel so lonely here at Ft. Knox and I LOVE seeing this LO! You did a fantastic job and I can't wait to see the rest!
My son graduated from Basic Training! Journaling under batallion photo reads: (the journal slipped out from behind the photo during scanning)
202 men marched onto the parade field, my eyes welled up with tears. I found it difficult to breathe, my heart pounded rapidly. To see Jon standing at attention, in dress uniform was a moment I will never forget. Where a boy once stood, there was now a man. My son. When he came toward me, we embraced and I held onto him for what seemed like forever. The look in your eyes was so very different as well. Without saying a word, it seemed as if I knew everything you didn’t say. I was so very proud of him and sure that his father would have been so very proud as well. Jon, that day will be forever etched in my memory as one of the best days of my life. The saddest day was when I had to take you back to the base the next day. A rainy downpour, moments left before you had to be in your unit. No time to embrace you, no time to say all those things I wanted to say. Just the look in your eyes as you left the car. Your last words “ Thanks for everything, I love you guys…” I love you more than you will ever know. I’m so very proud of the man you have become.
