I was so proud of that cake! Journalling reads: Jacob was so excited for his 6th birthday to come - this would be his frist bday party. He had invited his best buds from school and daycare - six in total. We took great care in hanging up the decorations (jacob had chosen a Ninja Turtles theme). I had spent hours the day before decorating his birthday cake because I couldn't find a good one at the bakery (I was pretty proud of it, when all was said and done). When the doorbell rang at one o'clock, signalling the arrival of the first guest, I braced myself and opened the door. On by one , the boys arrived (the twins a little late - I knew I should have written “Don't forget to put your clocks ahead” on the invitations). In about 8.2 minutes flat, the toy room was a disaster. And you know that saying, “M&M's melt in your mouth, not in your hands”? - not so in the case of6 sweaty-handed little men. I found chocolate and coloured stains on the toys, the walls, and the light switch (which of course had to be turned off to play Star Wars). The time finally came for cake and I sadly cut into my masterpiece while six eager little boys waited with forks, ready to devour it. All in all, the afternoon was preey calm until the gifts came into play. Some were the standard “boy” gifts - stickers, Power Ranger colouring books, a plastic knight's sword - but all couth was lost when the whoopee cushion was unwrapped. As the boys ran around making farting noises and screeching, I looked at my husband wistfull, and said, “Anyone want to play Barbies?”. Happy birthday, Jacob, and may all your birthdays be this crazy fun!
