Here is my lo for the take 10 challege. I used our Chirstmas Eve celebration for the theme.

Journaling:

Along with all of the usual traditions for celebrating Christmas Eve, our family has created one silly one of our own. It all started with a few teenage boys that weren’t very good at wrapping and created some goofy looking presents. The boys turned this into a competition and the UGLY PRESENT CONTEST was born. Each year the contestants enter their ugliest wrapped present to be voted on by the rest of the family. There is even a trophy, a piece of one of the presents from a past year. Over the years the presents have become more and more elaborate which has led to the addition of a category for the most creative. The “boys” usually start concocting their ideas around Thanksgiving and spend many hours in secret working on them, though there is always room for the last minute idea. Typically, some of the entries revolve around something going on in the family (ie. a birth, surgery, trip). This year was the first year with moving parts. Dan’s Narnia gift was electronic and even after many successful test runs failed to perform at competition time which may have worked to Dan’s advantage with the judges. Jeff’s included snow that fell from a cloud. Alex included live fish on his gaudy gift which unfortunately came to an untimely end during the night after having some glue seep into the tank. Matt’s beautiful Hawaiian scenery was a reflection of his memories of getting sick on his trip to Hawaii the week prior, and Josh created a baby complete with dirty diaper. Note: all presents must actually contain a present for someone in the family and it is usually an honor to receive “an ugly present.”
