Mommy's 1st Mother's Day - 2003

Journaling on right page:
Before I was a Mommy...

I ate hot meals in peace, I had unstained clothing and I had quiet conversations on the phone.

I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I slept all night.

Before I was a Mommy...
I cleaned my house each day and it stayed clean.
I never tripped over toys, found raisens stuck to the carpet or forgot words to lullabies.
I didn't worry whether there were enough diapers left and I certainly didn't think
about immunizations or bringing an extra pacifier with me everywhere I went.

Before I was a Mommy...
I had never been puked on, pooped on, spit-up on, chewed on, or pinched by tiny fingers.
I had complete control of my thoughts, my body, my mind and my time.

Before I was a Mommy...
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests or give shots.
I never looked into teary little eyes and felt so sorry or helpless.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple smile or so proud of a simple feat.
I never sat up late hours at night worrying about my sick baby.

Before I was a Mommy...
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I had to leave her behind and she cried.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could care for someone so much.
I never realized how such a hard job would be the most rewarding part of my life.

Before I was a Mommy...
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to be called "Mama".
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache,
the wonderfulment or the satisfaction a child could bring.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much love for one little girl...

Before I was a Mommy.
