Every year since 2008 I've either made or attempted to make a Christmas album of some sort. My first was a December Daily, and then in 2009 I discovered Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas [shimelle.com] class and have used it as the basis for my albums ever since. The last two years, though, I've failed to complete my album. I did great with keeping up with photos + journaling throughout the season, but they never made it into album form. In 2008-2010- the years that I did get my albums finished- I started off with base pages made before the holidays, so I decided to return to that method this year and have made my 2013 album in advance!I'm using a 6x8 Sn@p binder from Simple Stories to keep things…well…simple, and I've prefilled the divided page protectors with a variety of journaling cards, spots for photos, embellishments, and even some mini layouts in the full 6x8 sleeves. All I have to do now each day as Shimelle's prompts come out is to print my photo, do a bit of writing, and put everything into the premade spots. It helps that I have Shimelle's prompt list from last year, so I was able to put certain embellishments that were just perfect for a given topic- the Christmas tree entry, for example- on the proper page. Anything that needs to be removed to either make space for the photo or to be run through the printer (in the case of my journaling cards) is held down by temporary adhesive, an d I'll glue it down permanently later when the page is finished. A few pieces of Christmas ephemera have also already started to appear in the mail and around the house, so I've gone ahead and included them in my album. Some of my favorite embellishments in this project are the clear pockets full of sequins and die cuts. I used pieces of transparency (the inexpensive office supply variety) as the base for these and stitched a few of them up using my sewing machine. They help keep the sequins from leaking out of the album, of course, but the also make it easy for me to move the pockets around if I need to make room for photos or any other items. In an attempt to be totally honest, I still have a few pages left to complete! Journal Your Christmas is a 37 day album, and I've got the first 25 completed and shown here. I plan on finishing up the other 12 over the weekend using these same supplies, and I'm sure that I'll also add some finishing touches here and there in the form of brads, buttons, and enamel dots as I complete each layout.I'm hoping that this album will make my 2013 Christmas journal the easiest ever!
