During our summer vacation to the Greek Island of Crete we took a day trip to the Samaria Gorge. A bus picked us up at our hotel and then made the 1.5 hr drive to the entrance of the gorge. The gorge starts at Xyloskalo (1227 m. above sea level) on the Omalos Plateau and runs down to the seaside village of Agia Roumeli on the south coast of Crete. Here we bought our entrance tickets and had a light breakfast at the small restaurant. Then it was time to start our hike down. The hike was approximately 16km. We started the hike around 8:30 when it was still a bit chilly, finished at 2 and it was in the 90s. Stunning views, and so many photo ops felt like we stopped at least 100 times so I could snap a picture. Once we reached the village on the coast we had a few hours to enjoy a late lunch and swim. Then it was time to catch a ferry as this town has no road access. It was about an hour boat ride back to the buses and then home. A long, but very fun day! My inspiration was from gotsketch.
