Well, I'm certainly glad you didn't skip this port - I enjoyed the photos and your journaling. I am a little surprised that the ship even stops here. Fascinating stuff.
The Villagers paddle their canoes to the side of our ship and watch for us to throw things into the water - they jump off the ship and bring it to the surface. Most of the passengers throw dollar bills. We also threw some apples which they loved. They jumped in after them. In the middle right photo a mother is feeding her baby one of the apples we threw in the water that one of the boys swam after and gave her.
Two of the younger boys were proud to show us their turtle!
There were at least 20 of these canoes surround our ship - they were on both sides.
We've been to other islands in the past where it was the custom for the villagers to paddle canoes out to our ship when it was time for us to be on board and dive for things the passengers would throw. The ship sits docked for at least an hour after all aboard before it leaves - sometimes longer.
