Wow amazing page and story it made me realise how lucky I am to live near the sea and recently on holiday being able to walk along the beach at 6 every morning with the gulls flying overhead watching me picking up sea glass at the waters edge but I,m sure there must be beauty in a place near you that I will never get to see...beautiful inspirational page x

Interesting/informative description - tfs. and such a WONDERFUL beach lo. I love all the shells. the lovely grouping/cluster at the bottom of the photo is PERFECT.
Well, after a 2-month hiatus I've made my first layout and it felt so good to get to make one! I made this for my eldest brother, Travis (on the far left) and his wife, Sylvia (seated on the arm of the chair). They were blessed to go to Galveston over Memorial Day weekend (away from the flooding), and meet up with their whole family taking along Sylvia's Mom (seated). Sylvia had posted the picture on Facebook and it inspired me to do a page. There are 4 generations in this photo! I asked Sylvia what all they saw while there and she was describing the birds so I looked them up in my bird book and found they have Laughing Gulls and Sandpipers down there. I'd never seen a Laughing Gull! Anyway, although they didn't see a lighthouse and she didn't think there were any in Texas, I did a little research and sure enough, came up with the Point Bolivar Lighthouse that is really historical. It was built in 1872 and retired in 1933. "The Bolivar lighthouse is of brick sheathed in cast iron plates riveted together. It once glistened with a white-and-black banded exterior, but now is covered with rust and is almost a uniform black.
The 52,000 candle-power beacon guided ships through the channel, which in earlier years was undredged, safely from the Gulf of Mexico into the Port of Galveston." Since it is part of Galveston history I felt I would include a picture of it. I got pictures of the birds, antique buckets, sand dollars, sand castles, anchor, ship's wheel and lighthouse from searching the internet and fussy cut around them. The starfish is one I took myself a few years back. The real sea shells, rock and clear glass my best friend gave me. I added microbeads from Reneabouquets and Stampendous Mica Flakes for a little diversity. I used a seafoam sponge and tapped the chalk inks on the sand to give a little less smooth look.
