What is important to me? What do I treasure? It's that age-old question...if there was a fire in your house and you knew your family and pets were safe, what would you save? Having been through the loss of a lot of tangible possessions and the loss of people who were dear to me has made me hyper-aware of what is important in life. Material possessions could never hold the place that my faith and family do at the very top of list. However, I can't hide them away in a treasure box because they are made to shine out in the world!
The "thing" I would save and hide are my memories. My scrapbooks, my computer & hard drive are the treasure chests in which these precious, irreplaceable memories are stored. There are so many experiences that even my Fort Knox-like memory has forgotten. I'm so thankful that those memories have been documented. Not just for my sake, but so that future generations will know me and my family. So that someday, Kayla will show her babies pictures of when she was little and they can marvel at how "old-fashioned" it looks. So that when Josh and Connor get married, I can show their wives "naked baby" pictures of their husbands. So that, one day, when David and I are gone, these memories will live on and spark discussion with future generations...Did Grandpa Dave really skateboard when he was 50? Did Grandma Tam live at Disneyland? Who was Uncle Mark, Aunt Carla, Tia Ramona, Tia Nes and Tio Celso? That is my treasure...that is what I hold dear.
