Our last place to see today was the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the old city of Jerusalem. It took about 15 minutes to walk from the Garden Tomb to the Holy Sepulcher.

Once we got to the church it was packed outside! It was the first time today we hit crowds! There was one procession after another of Priests and altar boys from countries all over the world marching through the crowds outside and up the stairs to go inside. Then a few minutes later another procession would march back outside.

We were told that the processions had been going on like this for days! Even the head of Egypt's Coptic Church was there with his entourage to participate. (He is referred to as the Pope of Egypt.)

My knee was really hurting so I was not able to stand in the area sectioned off for the huge crowd outside. Outside the church we wandered to a set up steps where I sat down to give my knee a rest. Within minutes a police officer motioned a group to go inside and we were directed to go in with them so we only had to wait about 10 minutes to get inside the church! We expected to wait for hours!

The photo of the outside of the church without any people was taken from the Internet.
